(2002) 8 minutes Dancer: Philippa Kaye Music: The Billy Tipton Memorial Saxophone Quartet, Igor Stravinsky's The Nightingale Costume: Philippa Kaye Lighting: Sonya Madeiros

No Wake is a solo during which Philippa attempts to choreograph as if she were alone in the studio working. There are a number of text and movement phrases which are the skeleton of the dance but all of it is fodder for improvisation. The main (hidden) structure has to do with the timing of sound —recorded music, silence, and light.
"A humorous self -reflection on the creative process of a dancer/choreographer making a piece in real time. Ms. Kaye hums and haws as she tries out different phrases, mixes genres, and evokes an array of emotional palettes."
-- Cyrus Khambatta, The Washington DC International Improvisation Festival
